Global Zombies: An Alternative Type of Corporate Resiliency
Co-hosted with CAIA New York Chapter
Global economic challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic have increased concerns about a new phenomenon in the corporate world: zombie firms. These “walking-dead” companies, which have become insolvent and would cease operations under normal circumstances, continue to operate due to government support or financial institutional aid.
With the support of Broadgate, please join us as we hear from Professor Edward Altman on the rise of zombie firms, which are only slated to increase in number around the world due to rising corporate debt and interest rate hikes. Topics covered will include:
The importance (or not) of zombie companies and their resilience
How best to measure whether a company is a zombie or not
What has caused this trend and where are zombie firms most prominent in the world
What is the outlook for zombie firms in the U.S. and beyond
Following the presentation and Q&A, we will conclude with a networking reception.
Registration is required as seats are limited. Priority will be given to GARP Individual Members.
