Job description
Job Title: Corporate Compliance Assurance
Function: Legal, part of the Governance and Legal Affairs Directorate, supporting business development and management.
Job Purpose: Support the Legal and Compliance functions in delivering a proactive and commercially relevant compliance program across business units.
Location: Based in Bristol, with regular UK travel and occasional travel within Europe.
The company is a leader in low carbon energy generation and is involved in major nuclear projects that are critical to the UK's climate goals and energy policy.
This role is crucial due to potential legal risks, requiring strong knowledge of relevant laws, regulatory enforcement, and the ability to influence stakeholders to ensure robust compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance within projects, focusing on export controls, GDPR, anti-bribery, competition law, and modern slavery, in collaboration with the Compliance function.
- Act as the Legal & Compliance representative in monthly Quality meetings.
- Work with technical teams to drive compliance across projects.
- Maintain compliance procedures, deliver training, and manage emerging issues.
- Achieve high standards of compliance and training completion.
- Successfully complete audits and self-assessments with minimal corrective actions.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Promote and monitor compliance with key legislation and corporate initiatives through reporting, health checks, and self-assessments.
- Support compliance impact assessments (e.g., DPIA/ECIAs) and third-party due diligence.
- Conduct compliance audits, identify corrective actions, and advise business units on compliance obligations.
- Report compliance violations and updates to relevant authorities and teams.
Experience
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory compliance frameworks, including export controls, data protection, and competition law.
- Experience in developing compliance frameworks, ideally in regulated industries.
- Ability to manage stakeholders in demanding environments and handle multiple priorities.
- Organised, adaptable, with strong commercial awareness and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
